The ponderings of a Feral Housewife

Issue # 64 || April 11, 2025 || Previous issues

Hey Reader,

How was your week?

Can you believe it's Friday, again?!

At least it's spring! The flowers are blooming, and you know what else?

SUMMER IS ALMOST HERE!

YAY!!!

I live for summer and promise to never, ever complain that it's too hot 😎 🌞

Calling all sassy housewives (+superheroes)

Guys-you're included. Here's why. Even though women are cat-like (fiercely independent, sassy, and occasionally moody) we want a male's perspective. You guys have tricks we haven't mastered yet like saying “no,” setting boundaries, and owning your space.

You've probably scratched your head wondering why the women in your life sometimes act the way they do.

Have you ever asked yourself:

  • Why doesn't she just say no?
  • Why doesn't she slow down and rest?
  • Why does she take everything so seriously?
  • Why can't she just say what's really on her mind?
  • Why does everything have to be perfect all the time???

These things are simple for men, but slightly messier for women.

Don't ask me why just yet.

I'll be digging deeper into the psychology of human nature in the next few months.

Single ladies!

You may not be a housewife but you're still a superhero.

You're managing a household, that may or may not include family, pets, or roommates. Even if you live alone, I know you're out there giving of yourself in whatever ways you can.

Whatever your circumstances, the life-work-balance struggles are real.

My Goal

You know how much I love research, truth, and practical information, right?

Don't you love that too?

I'm always on the hunt for better ways of learning, growing, and becoming more emotionally resilient.

I love helping middle-aged women and housewives rediscover themselves through growth and creativity, sharing practical tools, ideas, and encouraging them to overcome guilt, find time for self-care, and pursue their passions without losing sight of their families.

Well, it's a work in progress lol.

But you get the picture.

Here's where you come in

I want to hear from women and men like yourselves (not so-called experts studying lab rats) who are or have been in the trenches so to speak.

  • What’s working to keep you sane and thriving while taking care of your family?

I'd love to hear your story, your insights, and your next-generation level advice!

For my superheroes who are beyond the phase of raising children: how did you do it?

  • What wisdom can you pass on to younger generations?
  • Looking back, what did you do "right" to balance family life with your needs?
  • What regrets might you have? What would you have done differently?

Feel free to interview your moms! This is a great way to open up dialogue with your mom, get closer to her, and thank her too! Where would you be without her?

Reply to this email with your insights or grab a 15-minute chat with me. There are no right or wrong or good or bad answers.

Just your truth!

Your Friday Tip: Ditch the Guilt

I'm pretty much an expert on guilt (understatement of the year).

It's my most consistent emotion (can it even be called an emotion? Maybe it's a state of being like happiness? Therefore, I get to decide to be it or not...hmmm💡.)

I know many of you moms are feeling the same way.

Anxiety, guilt, fear, and overwhelm are pesky shadows following us around, bullying us into doing more, being more, and being perfect too!

Let's do a mini-self talk exercise to banish guilt.

Next time guilt grabs you by the shoulder pause and ask yourself:

Is this good enough for now?

This is pretty much my cleaning mantra (if you decide to come over—don't say you weren't warned) 🤣

I think this question works well because we're telling our brain—I know you judge me as not good enough and I don't meet your crazy high standards but it's only true for now.

You see, work never ends, neither do responsibilities. There's no finish line. So, all you can do is your best at any given moment.

Talk back to that inner bully and get on with your life!

Go do something creative or fun or spiritual—something that fulfills you!

Give yourself permission to work and play.

Even the bible says so.

"Better is a handful with rest, than both hands full with labour, and vexation of mind."

Ecclesiastes 4:6

Poetry Corner

One of my readers submitted a poem in response to last week's newsletter about not thinking your way out of anxiety.

I think his poem sums up what our body experiences while feeling fear and anxiety.

Here's the thing, you don't want to run from these emotions. The bottom to top approach is allowing these sensations to work themselves out by living them. Feeling them. Thanking them even. Do fear and anxiety serve a good purpose?

Yes, it's our body's way of trying to protect us (whether it's a real or imagined threat).

His poem is in Italian. I translated it below with a little help from my Italian hubby, Grok AI, and little tweaks by me to render the idea in English. Translating is harder than it looks! Some things like pace, the nuance of words, and rhythm cannot be translated.

Enjoy!

LA PAURA

 E' come un'ombra:

si vede e non si tocca.

 Sussulta, s'affanna, freme.

 Il cuore soffoca

 dai battiti veloci.

 La pelle e' fredda, suda.

 Tremano le gambe,

 i ginocchi, il petto:

 e' la paura.

Fear

Like a shadow:

can be seen but not touched.

It startles, it struggles, it trembles.

The heart suffocates

with rapid beats.

The cold skin, sweats.

The legs tremble

the knees, the chest:

This is fear.

In Summary

Send me your sassy or superhero gems from your life experience (or interview someone else and share).

Banish guilt with one question: Is this good enough for right now?

Get going on a creative task. Start small. Draw, knit, crochet, paint, write a poem, dance, garden.

Until our next feral, fun, Friday adventure,

Anna
