Rest like a rebel (and love every minute of it)

Issue #133 | August 28, 2026 | Previous issues

Hey Reader,

I don't think we've exhausted this topic yet (pun intended 🤣).

We still need to talk about rest.

Last week's newsletter hit a nerve and I know why.

Because YOU are a responsible, caring person and you have a lot on your plate.

For most of you, that's a serious understatement. You can't just drop everything and chain yourself to a beach chair, as I intend to do in a few weeks.

And yet...there's still a lesson we're all needing to practice.

It looks something like this:

It's called resting like a rebel.

Rebels usually go against the crowd, rarely wait for approval, and don't automatically change course just because their choices make someone else uncomfortable.

A rebel knows the rules, but breaks them anyway (rules are for fools lol).

So here's what I want you to do.

Rest like a rebel.

Rest BEFORE collapsing.

Rest BEFORE you've earned it.

Rest BEFORE you feel worthy of it.

Rest WITHOUT guilt.

Rest WITHOUT permission.

Rest EVEN IF no one else is doing it.

Rest ESPECIALLY when no one else is doing it.

Rest EVEN IF no one is admiring you for it.

Rest EVEN IF it feels selfish.

Not because you're selfish or refuse to work or because you're shirking your responsibilities.

Because we need to be realistic too.

Sometimes we show up tired because love requires it.

Sometimes we say yes because duty does matter.

The trick is discerning when you're giving from love and when you're over-giving from guilt, habit, or fear of disappointing people.

Sometimes the most rebellious thing to do is rest because you NEED IT.

It's as simple as that.

With love,

Anna

P.S. Your to-do lists may be offended. Let them.

Issue #132 | August 21, 2026 | Previous issues Hey Reader, I want to wail the way a child does over their ice cream that fell and melted into oblivion. I feel your pain! Summer is slipping through my fingers, just like that, faster than I can savor it. Between weeks of recurring sore throats and a month of wonderful visitors from Italy and beyond...I'm ready to chain myself to a chair on the beach and bury the key deep in the sand. Sayonara responsibilities 👋. Hello sunshine 🌞 and strawberry...

Keeping score in a ledger

Issue #131 | August 14, 2026 | Previous issues Hey Reader, Are you the type to 'keep score'? I used to be that person, and I still find myself fighting that tendency from time to time. I come from one of those families that would take the shirts off our backs for someone in need. Isn't it only fair to expect the same treatment? You know, reciprocity? I do you a favor, and then when I'm in need, you return it. Now the score is even. Except, if you've lived life long enough, you know it doesn't...

Man with glasses grabs head in shock

Issue #130 | August 7, 2026 | Previous issues Hey Reader, The phrase, it is what it is, has been around a long time. Back in the day, when I was a computer tech, my boss used to say it to me all the time, complete with a cynical smile. It felt foreign to me then. I was young. Idealistic. Full of hope. I understood the sentiment behind it, but it's only in the last few decades that I feel the full effects of it. And now, I'm hearing that phrase more and more, as the next generations are...
