The ponderings of a Feral Housewife

Issue # 73 || June 13, 2025 || Previous issues

Hey Reader,

Summer is around the corner. (Next Friday officially).

This is MY SEASON!

Sunshine, warmth, time outdoors, ice cream, and soon THE BEACH! ⛱

I LOVE sitting outside and seeking peace and stillness despite living in a world of bustling traffic, cackling chickens, and kamikaze bugs 🦟.

🌞The warm sun says, 'I love you'.

💨The cool breeze says 'I'm here, when you need me'.

🌴🌷🌹The colors say, 'Drink me in and enjoy every shade to the full'.

Your mind, body, and soul aches for stillness.

Serenity.

Peace.

In truth, nothing in nature is still. Every living thing vibrates with energy (measurable frequencies) that we can't see. Thank goodness! Can you imagine standing outside and seeing everything vibrate? That would probably make us crazy, and dizzy. 🥴😵

We see stillness (except for the trees swaying in the breeze or the stunning aeronautical stunts of flies, wasps, and bumble bees.)

In nature/life, there is the RIGHT AMOUNT of movement and stillness.

Right now, I'm staring at my dog who knows how to lay quietly until his attention is needed or the humans are moving. And he does this daily.

Yesterday, I watched our cat (patiently and quietly) stalk a bunch of birds in our neighbor's lawn (and later caught one!).

And what are cats and dogs known for? Sleeping 12-16 hours a day.

They know how to rest.

They know how to work.

Self care prompt

When was the last time you sat outside and sat still?

No agenda. No phone. No pressing appointment. Nowhere to go.

Time to just BE.

Do you know how to BE with yourself?

For some, the idea of stillness, silence, or solitude is frightening. Or boring. Or their schedule is too full to allow it.

What about you?

Did you know researchers confirmed via experiments that people would rather ⚡shock⚡ themselves than sit for 10-15 minutes alone with their thoughts? (To be fair—they were stuck in a white walled room with no windows. Maybe if they had been outdoors they wouldn't have been bored at all 😊).

Also, of interest, more men shocked themselves than women.

Kudos to women for using their minds to entertain themselves (or they were more averse to pain lol?)

Guyswhat gives? Is boredom that bad for you??? Are your thoughts that toxic? Was the curiosity of the electric shock more appealing than your own thoughts?

This experiment was by no means perfect or condemning to anyone, but it raises interesting thoughts.

Have we forgotten how to be alone with ourselves and our thoughts?

Have we forgotten the joy of stillness and silence?

Have we become addicted to busyness?

Rage, rage, rage against the endless list of to do's

Call it pandemic rage, but I REFUSE to accept the busyness of modern life.

I'm one of the many introverts who actually liked being 'isolated' during the pandemic. (To be honest: I wasn't really isolated, I live with 3 guys; hubby, child, and my dad, above the garage. Oh, and a needy cat and a needy dog).

I didn't mind meeting over Zoom.

I didn't mind not having an active social life.

I didn't mind doing LESS.

In fact, I swore I'd never go back to pre-pandemic craziness and you know what happened...

Life got even busier!

Hasn't yours?

The choice

Here's the thing about life.

You have CHOICES.

Every day you make thousands of little decisions, sprinkled in are some major ones too.

You can either live your life with a frazzled nervous system OR you can choose to:

Slow down

Reduce

Think, wonder, wander, propose ideas, speculate, ask meaningful and thoughtful questions

See, really see, all the shades of colors in your backyard or the park. (How many can you count?)

Explore

Watch a cat hunt

Imagine

Connect with yourself and your creator

Feel the energy of what is natural and not manmade or mechanical

Joy is not found in HOW many things you do in a day but in WHO YOU ARE and HOW YOU'RE BEING in the moment.

Are you rushing and frazzled?

Or are you relaxed and joyful?

As much as I can, I want to give my nervous system the gift of being relaxed and joyful.

How about you?

Until our next feral, fun, Friday adventure,

Anna
